With a good deal of fundamental research already accomplished, Lorson hopes that his team can start to establish clinical trials to test the therapeutic programs they have developed. As he explains, “the next step is to launch it into animal models and prove efficacy, showing that you can turn around the SMA phenotype [gene expression].”
The UMRB grant allowed us to establish ourselves in new areas. With this support, we were able to win two large NIH awards, which are now the foundation of our lab.
