Studying the subtle reactions of pedestrians as they pass one another on the sidewalk is part of Patterson’s most recent line of cross-cultural work. His research compares people's reactions in the United States to those in other countries, for example in Japan.
I couldn’t do this study on my own. The UMRB grant allowed me to enlist a graduate student research assistant.
