The University of Missouri Research Board funds have led to several other important opportunities for Rovey. The UMRB grant supported development of "a plasma modeling code, and we were able to use that starting point as leverage to get additional grants." Recently, he won a Young Investigators Research Program Award from the Air Force. As Rovey recounts the process, "we applied to the Air Force, saying, 'Well, we've already got the modeling capability. Can we get some money to do an experiment?'" With the UMRB-funded experience behind him, the answer was yes.
The UMRB grant was instrumental—it was just last year, and it has led to two funded projects so far.
