Rovey's first interest in plasma came through a space propulsion course, but plasma can be applied to a number of engineering questions in aerospace, mechanical, nuclear, or electrical fields. "It's important subject matter, certainly for my graduate students, and I think for other students, not just aerospace students," he says.
The UMRB grant was instrumental—it was just last year, and it has led to two funded projects so far.
