The UMRB Grant
The University of Missouri Research Board grant allowed Martin the release time needed to translate, research, and write. “They provided the seed time for launching the novel and a whole series of papers,” he says. “Without those two UMRB [grants], the novel would never have been written, and I don’t think that I could have accomplished the translation [of Thus Spoke Zarathustra] either, or started this new translation of Beyond Good and Evil. Those two [grants] were absolutely invaluable to me.”
