Lost in Translation
Much of Martin’s research ties into his translation work, as he interprets Nietzsche’s most difficult books, Thus Spoke Zarathustra and Beyond Good and Evil. “My UMRB [grant] was very helpful with a variety of my papers on Nietzsche,” says Martin. “Most of the scholarly work I've done on Nietszche has been related to this question on deception and what he has to say about it; there’s also some work on what he has to say about self-knowledge. They're interconnecting questions for me.”
Those two UMRB grants were absolutely invaluable. Without them, the novel would never have been written, and I couldn’t have done the translations.
