Much of his upcoming book, Love, Lies, and Marriage, is spent recounting and analyzing moments in Martin’s own life. “It's an exploration of all these ideas,” he says, “using philosophy, psychology, sociology, memoir, scientific literature in biology. It relies on several great novels that are studies of love and deception, and it relies on people who fall between the margins of philosophy and literature.”
Those two UMRB grants were absolutely invaluable. Without them, the novel would never have been written, and I couldn’t have done the translations.
