Leventis recalls the moment when he realized that his process for cross-linking aerogels worked: “We came up with the idea in 2002 based off of curiosity. I did the first two experiments myself, and I engaged other students after that.” Seeking independent research to confirm the findings, Leventis approached two graduate students. Giving them the recipe, he asked them to duplicate the results.
